What is a auto dm?
When a creator says "comment LINK and I'll DM you", the DM that arrives is an auto DM. The fan comments, a keyword trigger spots the word, and the tool sends a private reply to their inbox. To the fan it looks like a normal message from your account, because it is one.
Why creators use it. A link in a caption cannot be tapped, and a link in bio is one more step away. An auto DM puts the link right where the fan already is, at the moment they asked for it. It also gives the Reel a reason to collect comments, and every fan gets the same answer whether ten people comment or ten thousand.
The rules it runs on. Meta allows one private reply per comment, sent within 7 days of the comment, per its Private Replies documentation. If the fan writes back, the chat continues as a normal DM thread. Auto DMs must also be paced: a viral Reel should not send hundreds of messages in one minute.
How to write one. Lead with what they asked for. Keep it to two or three short lines in your own voice. Put the link or file in the first message, because that is the one Meta guarantees you can send. You can then invite the fan to follow or ask for their email, as long as the freebie is delivered either way.
theZio sends auto DMs when a fan comments your keyword, on one post or all posts, paced within Instagram's limits. It can send any link or a private download of a free file, and connects with Instagram Login, so no password is shared. Read how auto DMs work step by step or see pricing.

Questions people ask
What does auto DM mean on Instagram?
An auto DM is a direct message sent automatically from your account when a fan does something, most often commenting a keyword on your post or Reel.
How fast does an auto DM arrive?
Usually within seconds of the comment. On a viral Reel, a good tool paces the DMs within Instagram's limits instead of sending hundreds in one minute.
