What is a lead magnet?
The idea is simple: a fan gets real value, and you get a way to reach them that does not depend on the algorithm. Followers can disappear with one reach drop or a hacked account. An email list stays yours.
On Instagram the usual flow looks like this. You post a Reel that teaches one useful thing and ends with "Comment GUIDE and I'll DM it to you". A fan comments the keyword. An automated DM replies, asks for their email, and then sends the freebie. Meta allows one private reply per comment, within 7 days, so that first DM should be short and clear about what the fan gets.
Good lead magnets for Indian creators are small and specific. A finance creator can give a one-page SIP checklist. A fitness creator can give a 7-day home workout plan. A food creator can give a festive recipe card, and a photographer a pack of Lightroom presets. One clear promise beats a 60-page ebook nobody opens.
A few rules keep it honest. Say what the fan will get before you ask for anything. Ask only for the email you plan to use, and tell them what you will send. Deliver what you promised, every time, even if they skip the follow invite.
theZio runs this whole flow on every plan, including Free: a fan comments your keyword, theZio asks for their email in the DM, then sends your file as a private download link (3 products on Free, unlimited on Pro). Emails land in your contacts, which you can export as a CSV. For lead magnet ideas and the DPDP Act basics, read how to collect emails on Instagram with a DM lead magnet.
