How to send a PDF or file automatically in Instagram DMs

"Comment PLAN and I'll send you the PDF" is one of the most common Reel hooks in India. The comment part is easy now. The hard part is the file: where it lives, how it reaches the fan, and who else can open it once it is out there.
This guide compares six ways to do it: a plain Google Drive link, ManyChat, SuperProfile, Stan Store, CreatorFlow and theZio. theZio is our product, so it is labelled as ours, and there is a section on where other tools beat it. Competitor details are as reported in October 2026 by each tool's own pages, or by search results where our network could not open the site. Sources are listed at the end. Features change often, so check each tool before you build a launch around it.
How this list was made
Every option here starts the same way: a fan comments a keyword on your Reel, and Meta's Private Replies API lets a professional account send that person one DM, within 7 days of the comment. What changes is what that DM carries. We looked at four questions:
- Attachment or link? Meta's messaging docs list PDF as a file type an app can send, up to 25 MB. Most tools still send a link instead, because a link can carry any file type and can be tracked.
- Who else can open it? A public link works for anyone it is forwarded to. A private link works only for the fan it was made for.
- Free or paid? Giving a freebie and selling a product are different jobs. Some tools here are stores; others only deliver.
- What does it cost? Dollar or rupee billing, and whether delivery sits on the free plan.
Which tools can send a PDF automatically in Instagram DMs?
Any comment-to-DM tool can send a link to a PDF you host yourself. ManyChat is reported to attach the PDF in the chat. Stan Store and SuperProfile deliver files you sell or give from their stores. CreatorFlow sends a link to your hosted file. theZio stores the file and sends each fan a private download link.
| Tool | How the file arrives | Who can open it | Sells the file | Billing (reported) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google Drive link + any auto DM tool | A share link in the DM | Anyone with the link, if shared that way | No | Your DM tool's plan |
| ManyChat | PDF attached in the DM, reported since February 2026 | Whoever has the file | Not covered in the sources we read | US dollars; check its pricing page |
| SuperProfile | From its store, with AutoDM on every plan | Not stated on its pricing page | Yes, on the Creator plan | Creator $4.99 for the first month, then $29 a month |
| Stan Store | AutoDM sends a link to your Stan product or lead magnet | Handled by Stan's store | Yes, with checkout | Creator $29 a month, 14-day trial, no free plan |
| CreatorFlow | A link to a PDF you host | Depends on where you host it | No | Pro $15 a month, or $12 billed yearly |
| theZio (ours) | A private download link with a Download button | Only that fan, 30 days, 10 downloads | Yes, on Max Pro (link in bio store) | Free plan, Pro at ₹499 a month, Max Pro at ₹899 to sell |
Read the middle column twice. A link that anyone can open is fine for a free checklist you want shared. It is a problem for a paid ebook or a guide you only want to give to people who left their email.
Option by option: where each one is the better pick
Google Drive link with any auto DM tool
The simplest route. Upload the PDF to Google Drive or Dropbox, set sharing so anyone with the link can view, and paste that link into your auto DM. It works with every tool and costs nothing extra. The catch is control: the link opens for whoever it is forwarded to, it never expires, and you cannot see who downloaded what. Restricting access fixes the sharing but makes every fan request access, which kills the instant feel. Better pick if the file is a free checklist you are happy to see shared around.
ManyChat
A ManyChat community post dated 20 February 2026 says Instagram automations can now attach a PDF, added as a block in Flow Builder, and that fans can preview it in the conversation. We read this via search because our network could not open the page. ManyChat bills in US dollars; see our ManyChat comparison. Better pick if you want the PDF itself inside the chat and you already build flows in ManyChat.
SuperProfile
SuperProfile is a creator store with AutoDM. Its pricing page, checked on 17 October 2026, lists unlimited AutoDMs on Reels and posts on the free Starter plan, lead magnets for up to 10 leads on Starter, and "Sell Digital Products" on the Creator plan, shown as $4.99 for the first month and then $29 a month, with 0% commission. It does not say how files reach buyers. Better pick if you want a store that sells the file and a comment-to-DM tool in one place. More in theZio vs SuperProfile.
Stan Store
Stan is a creator storefront. Its pricing blog and help centre, read via search on 17 October 2026, report Creator at $29 a month or $300 a year, Creator Pro at $99 a month, a 14-day trial, no free plan and no Stan transaction fee. AutoDM sits on Creator and sends a DM with a link, which can point to a Stan product or lead magnet. Better pick if you sell courses or paid downloads and want checkout and delivery on one page. See theZio vs Stan Store.
CreatorFlow
CreatorFlow's own guide to sending a PDF, updated 14 October 2026 and checked on 17 October, describes a keyword DM that sends your PDF link, so you host the file yourself. It lists an Email Gate and link click tracking on its Pro plan, at $15 a month or $12 a month billed yearly, and on Growth. Better pick if you already host your files and want click tracking on the link. See theZio vs CreatorFlow.
How theZio delivers a file (our tool, so read this critically)
theZio is our product. You upload the file once in Digital products, pick it in an automation, and every fan who comments your keyword gets their own download link in the DM. Here is what that means in practice.
- Private per fan. Each link is made for one fan and works for 30 days and 10 downloads. A forwarded link does not become a public copy of your ebook.
- The file stays private. It sits in private storage. Each tap on Download gets a fresh link that expires in 15 minutes.
- You stay in control. From the product page you can renew a fan's link or turn it off. Deleting the product turns every link off at once.
- You see what happened. Analytics show how many fans opened the link and how many downloaded the file.
- File types: PDF, EPUB, ZIP, MP3, MP4, PNG, JPG and WEBP. Files up to 25 MB on Free and 200 MB on Pro.
- Plans: 3 products on Free, unlimited on Pro. Free also includes 1,000 auto DMs a month, email capture in the DM and the Ask For Follow invite, which never holds back the file.
- Different file per keyword. With per-keyword delivery, one automation can send GUIDE fans the ebook and PRESET fans the preset pack.
Where other tools beat theZio
- Selling on a cheaper plan. theZio sells files only on Max Pro, through a link in bio store, and pays out weekly. SuperProfile sells on a lower-priced plan with T+1 payouts, as reported on its pricing page.
- File inside the chat. ManyChat is reported to attach the PDF itself, so fans can preview it in Instagram. theZio sends a link that opens a download page.
- Any file type. A Drive or Dropbox link can carry a Word file or a spreadsheet. theZio accepts a fixed list of types.
- Free plan room. theZio Free holds 3 products and 100 MB of storage. A big video course needs Pro or another host.
- Other channels. theZio is Instagram only. ManyChat covers more channels.
Is a download link or a PDF attachment better in an Instagram DM?
A PDF attachment is quicker to open, because the fan previews it inside Instagram. A download link gives you more control: it can carry other file types, it can be private to one fan and expire, and you can see who opened it. For a paid ebook or a lead magnet, control usually matters more than one tap.
There is one more practical point. Your first DM to a commenter lands in their message requests. Instagram treats media differently there: in our own testing, an image sent before a fan accepts the chat can be refused, while text and buttons still go through. A link in a button reaches the fan either way. If you rely on attachments, test on a second account that has never messaged you.

How do you set up automatic PDF delivery on theZio?
Upload your PDF in Digital products, publish it, then create an automation on your Reel with a keyword such as PLAN and choose Digital product as the delivery. When a fan comments PLAN, theZio sends their private download link in the DM. The whole setup takes a few minutes and works on the Free plan.
- Create the product. Dashboard > Digital products > New product. Add a name, a short description and, ideally, a cover image.
- Upload and publish. Choose the file, then turn on Published.
- Create the automation. Pick your Reel, add the keyword and write a short DM that says what the file is.
- Pick the product. In Deliver the goods, choose Digital product and select your file. Save.
- Optional extras. Turn on email capture to grow your list, and a public reply so the comment thread shows you answered.
- Test it. Comment the keyword from a second account and tap Download. Check the file opens on a phone.
If the Reel was already getting comments before you set this up, reply to old comments can send the file to fans who commented in the last 24 hours on every plan. On Pro it goes back further: comments up to 7 days old get the DM, and older ones get your public reply, because Meta no longer allows a DM.
What mistakes stop a PDF from reaching fans?
Most failed deliveries come from four things: a Drive link left on restricted access, a file too heavy to open on mobile data, two tools pointed at the same post, and a DM that does not say what the link is. Each one is quick to fix once you know to look for it.
- Restricted sharing. If you use a Drive link, open it in a private browser window before you post. A "request access" screen loses fans.
- Huge files. A 150 MB PDF of scanned pages is slow on mobile data. Compress images inside the PDF and keep it as light as you can.
- Two tools on one post. Meta allows one private reply per comment, so two tools on the same Reel means one fails or the fan gets two DMs.
- A vague DM. "Here you go" with a link looks like spam. Say what the file is and why it helps: "Your 7-day yoga plan, one page per day."
- No follow-up plan. Collect the email in the DM if you plan to send more later. A download alone gives you no way to reach the fan again.

Frequently asked questions
How do I send a PDF automatically when someone comments on my Instagram post?
Use a comment-to-DM tool. Set a keyword on the post, and when a fan comments it, the tool sends a DM with the PDF or a link to it. theZio, our tool, stores the PDF and sends each fan a private download link, on the Free plan too.
Can you send a PDF file directly in an Instagram DM?
Meta's messaging docs list PDF as a file type apps can send, up to 25 MB, and ManyChat is reported to support PDF attachments in Instagram automations. Many tools, theZio included, send a download link instead, which can carry other file types and be private to one fan.
What is the best tool to send an ebook in Instagram DMs?
It depends on the job. To sell the ebook with checkout, Stan Store or SuperProfile. To attach the PDF in the chat, ManyChat is reported to support it. To give it free with a private link per fan and email capture, theZio, our tool, fits.
Is it safe to share my PDF with a Google Drive link?
It works, but a link shared as "anyone with the link" opens for whoever it is forwarded to and never expires. That is fine for a free checklist. For a paid or email-gated file, use a private link per fan.
Can theZio sell my PDF?
Yes, on Max Pro (₹899 a month). Set a price on the product and it sells from your link in bio store: fans pay through Razorpay, get a private download link, and you are paid every Monday, with a 0% theZio fee until notice. Free products work on every plan (3 on Free, unlimited on Pro).
