When Spur is the better pick
- More channels in one place. Spur is reported to put Instagram, Facebook, live chat and, from AI Start, WhatsApp into one inbox. theZio is Instagram only.
- Built for online stores. Spur reports Shopify product sync, product cards, order tracking and cart recovery. theZio has no store integration.
- Support teams. A shared inbox with human takeover and up to 10 seats on its top plan suits a brand with several support agents. theZio Pro has a few team seats and no shared inbox.
- Click-to-DM ads. Spur lists Click-to-DM ad automation on its entry plan. theZio answers comments and Story replies, not ad clicks.
When theZio fits better
- A real free plan. theZio Free sends up to 1,000 auto DMs a month with no card. Spur is reported with a 7-day trial instead.
- Rupee pricing. theZio Pro is ₹499 a month, billed in rupees through Razorpay, so there is no currency conversion on your card.
- Creator tools on every plan. Email capture in the DM and a follow invite are on Free. The freebie is still delivered when a fan does not follow.
- Private file delivery. Upload an ebook or PDF once and each fan gets a private download link that expires, instead of a public file link.
- Old comments. theZio can answer comments that arrived before you switched an automation on: the last 24 hours on every plan, and all old comments on Pro, with a public reply where Instagram no longer allows a DM.
- No credits to track. You pay one plan price. Smart match, the Comment Agent and the brand deal inbox on Pro run inside daily allowances, not a credit balance you top up.
How to switch without double DMs
- List what is live on Spur for Instagram. Note each post, keyword, the DM text, the link it sends and any Story automations. Keep Spur for any channel theZio does not cover.
- Create a free theZio account and connect Instagram through Instagram Login. You need a professional (Business or Creator) account.
- Turn off the Spur Instagram automation for one post. Two tools watching the same post would send a fan two DMs for one comment.
- Recreate it in theZio with the same post, keywords, DM and link. Add email capture, a follow invite or a file if you want them.
- Test with a second Instagram account. Comment the keyword and check that exactly one DM arrives with the right link.
- Move the rest, Story automations included. Never leave both tools answering the same posts or Stories, or a fan gets two DMs.
Frequently asked questions
Is theZio a good Spur alternative?
For a creator who mainly wants comment-to-DM on Instagram, yes: theZio has a free plan, bills in rupees and puts email capture and file delivery on every plan. For a Shopify brand that needs a shared support inbox across several channels, Spur covers more ground.
Is theZio cheaper than Spur?
theZio has a free plan of 1,000 auto DMs a month, and Pro is ₹499 a month in rupees. Spur is reported from $12 a month billed yearly for its entry plan, with a 7-day trial and AI credits on each plan. Check Spur's pricing page for today's numbers.
Can I use Spur and theZio at the same time?
Yes, but never on the same Instagram post or Story. Meta allows one private reply per comment, so two tools on one post means a fan gets two DMs or one tool fails. A common split is Spur for its other channels and theZio for Instagram comments.
Does theZio have a shared inbox like Spur?
No. theZio does not replace the Instagram inbox. It sends the automatic DM, captures emails and delivers files, and you or your team reply to fans in the Instagram app. On Pro, a manager or agency can get their own login with team access.
Are both tools safe for my Instagram account?
Both say they use the official Instagram API, so you sign in through Meta's own screen and never share your password. Keep the DM itself useful and on-topic, and let the tool pace sends within Instagram's limits. theZio is not a Meta partner.
